FALL PREVENTION SERVICES AND HOME SAFETY

Your home is usually perceived as a place where you feel the most secure. However, about one in three people aged 65 and over will fall and the commonest cause of these falls is environmental. The fear that results in the fall victims can compromise their self-confidence, precipitate the decline of their abilities and lead to their premature institutionalization. For all these reasons, prevention is important and can allow you to stay comfortably at home longer.

Thus, SPCV offers fall prevention and home safety services.

In collaboration with the occupational therapist, our nurses travel to your home to make a targeted assessment of falls for clients

  • 65 years of age and over, living alone or with another senior
  • With loss of autonomy
  • With difficulty walking
  • Who have already fallen, but without sequelae

Our nurses will be able to perform a personalized evaluation taking into account your natural environment. If necessary, the coordinating nurse can ask for advice from other SPCV professionals (occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nutritionist or foot care nurse). The consequences of these falls can be disastrous, such as hip fractures, head injuries, and even death.

The services of our nurse coordinator lead to a comprehensive assessment and the prevention of falls

  • A home visit to observe and identify all the risks
  • Developing a plan to mitigate identified risks and to reduce the risk of falls significantly
  • Manage the side effects of certain drugs that can cause falls
  • Help our clients focus on strengthening exercises and to improve their balance
  • Development of fall prevention strategies for patients
  • Teaching patients exercises to improve their balance
